I have recently found an author I wish I had read before starting to store food. Windy DeWitt teaches food storage to the LDS communities all over the states. She has two nice pamplets on her blogspot to download for free. There are many YouTube videos of the courses she teaches. Her blogspot is
everythingunderthesunblog.blogspot.com
I like her method of calculating how much of what food to store for one year. She teaches how to take the foods you normally eat and prepare to keep on eating the foods you love. She advocates the use of one gallon cans instead of buckets and mylar bags but you could use either.
There is also much information on sun ovens and rocket stoves. She includes recipes that utilize the stored food as well as an alternative to powdered eggs. She also includes a lot of information on how long you can store different foods for. I have been prepping for many years and learned a lot from these two pamplets. Maybe this information will help some newbies just getting started or add info for others about what will and will not store and for how long.
