For under $75 and two hours labor anyone can assemble a Faraday cage to protect their electronic gear from the effects of an EMP. The catch is; the gear must be inside the cage when the event occurs and we’re unlikely to get any warning.
Start with a 31-gallon Galvanized Steel Garbage Can with a lid.
Using Aluminum Foil Tape, tape over any holes in the can, found near the handles.
Line the can with Foam Sleeping Pad material to insulate the contents from the shell of the can.
Don’t forget to make a cap to complete the insulation/isolation of the can’s contents.
Then apply a conductive electromagnetic gasket material around the inside of the lid.
This gasket material has a conductive adhesive back that makes the chore pretty easy.
There is no need to ground this can.
