I hurt my back a couple weeks ago. was down for three days. I really could not remember doing anything to hurt my back. It just started hurting and got worse. I have only been to the doctor one time since I retired from the army 25 years ago. I do keep a personal medical journal on myself. It has dates types of injury / illness and any contributing factors I can think of at the time and what I did to get better. As I was making my entry in my journal and picking my brain as to why, I got to flipping back and taking notes. all my lower back injury's that put me down for 2 or more days in the last 10 years all happened in a 3 month time frame. dec thru feb. That got me to thinking. I know I don't drink as much water in the colder months as I do in the summer. Could being dehydrated make me more prone to muscle injury? And if so could getting better hydrated now heal me quicker? I increased my water intake and feel I improved at a faster rate than in the past. I did not talk with a doctor and this could not be considered conclusive but rather I am just sharing my experience and for my part I plan to stay better hydrated all year long.
For me this incident re-enforce's the need to stay hydrated during a shtf event because a bad preventable injury could slow us down enough and get us killed.
